Laser Hair Removal

Benefits/How It Works

Benefits:
Laser hair removal in Victoria, BC, by the nurses and technicians under the direction of Dr. Mark Lupin, provides an alternative to shaving and waxing.  Rather than a hair-by-hair approach (such as with electrolysis), laser hair removal treats multiple hairs with each laser pulse.  Both small and large areas can be treated, including the face, underarms, back, chest, legs and arms.

As the first centre on Vancouver Island to provide laser hair removal, we offer over a decade of experience.  Because we have two different FDA-approved lasers, we have a range of treatment options for different hair and skin types.  Because of our experience and flexible treatment options, patients come to Cosmedica from all across British Columbia.  Laser hair removal can even treat people with darker skin.

If you are considering laser hair removal in Victoria, BC, contact us by email or call us at (250) 598-3300 or (877) 598-3380.  Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Mark Lupin understands the significance of patient safety and comfort.  His practice is dedicated to providing high-quality cosmetic medical care for patients on Vancouver Island.

How It Works:

During laser hair removal, pigmented hairs absorb the laser light which is converted to heat, effectively disabling the hair follicles.  At the same time, the skin surface is protected by cooled sapphire tips and ultrasonic gel.  With the LightSheer™ Duet laser, no cooling is required and topical anesthetics are often not necessary due to its increased comfort.  Because hair grows in cycles, several treatment sessions are required.  Laser hair removal is an effecient way to achieve smoother skin, and it requires no downtime.  Patients can resume most daily activities immediately after treatment.  At Dr. Lupin's Victoria, BC practice, 4 to 6 laser hair removal sessions are recommended 2-3 months apart depending on the area treated.  However, more sessions may be required to achieve optimal results.
