Botox® - Therapeutic
Benefits/How It Works
Many people live with sweaty underarms and palms for years, not realizing this is a medical condition for which treatment is available. At our office in Victoria, BC, BOTOX® can be used for the treatment of excessive sweating. In 2001, Health Canada approved BOTOX® for the therapeutic treatment of localized excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. While BOTOX® is not a cure for hyperhidrosis, it can offer significant improvement and relief for men and women frustrated by excessive sweating on areas including the underarms, hands and feet.
If you are considering BOTOX® near Victoria, BC, send us an email or call us at (250) 598-3300 or (877) 598-3380. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Mark Lupin understands the significance of patient safety and comfort. His practice is dedicated to providing high-quality cosmetic medical care for patients on Vancouver Island.
BOTOX® reduces excessive sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands. During treatment, a tiny needle is used to inject a small amount of BOTOX® into the desired area. The procedure takes about 10 minutes for underarms and about 30 minutes for hands.
Patients receiving BOTOX® can leave the office right after treatment. Results appear within a few days to a few weeks and can last more than 6 months. While results last, patients report they are pleased to discover they can raise their arms and buy new clothes without the fear of embarrassing armpit stains. Note that areas which are not treated with BOTOX® will continue to produce sweat normally.
