Body Contouring

Have a little extra to love?  Certain body areas are prone to accumulating stubborn fat that responds very slowly to diet and exercise.  LipoSonix™ and UltraShape™ at Cosmedica in Victoria, BC offer permanent localized fat reduction – without surgery or downtime – for ultimate body contouring.  Excellent alternatives to surgical liposuction, LipoSonix™ and UltraShape™ selectively target unwanted fat leaving surrounding tissues and skin structures unharmed.  Within 8-12 weeks of treatment, patients realize an average of 2-5cm circumferential reduction and without any of the inherent risks of surgical liposuction or anesthesia, patients are free to resume regular activities immediately following treatment.

HOW IT WORKS

Utilizing patented high-frequency focused ultrasound technologies, fat is selectively targeted while surrounding nerves and vessels are left unharmed.  LipoSonix™ technology translates to a thermal effect within the skin while UltraShape™ mechanically disrupts unwanted fat.  In both instances, the body’s natural cleansing processes gradually clear the fat byproducts and, within an 8-12 week period following the recommended course of treatments, patients will experience an average of 2-5cm circumferential reduction.  Treatments are generally tolerable but oral analgesics may be recommended.

Vein & Spot Removal

When networks of blood vessels and red and brown spots become too obvious, laser treatment at Cosmedica in Victoria, BC provides targeted solutions for the permanent removal of these troublesome lesions.  Enjoy the benefits of spot removal in as little as 1-2 treatment sessions.

HOW IT WORKS

With unwanted facial veins, red or blue specific laser energy coagulates vessels rendering them ineffective.  The body, noticing the absence of function, will naturally clear away those segments of treated vessels.  Many patients notice an instant benefit while some vessels require 6-8 weeks to dissappear.  Commonly stubborn areas, such as around the nose, may require 2-3 treatment sessions for optimal results.  Not all vessels may clear but significant improvement is expected.

With unwanted brown spots and moles, any or a combination of cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen), laser and surgical excision may be selected, depending on the type(s) of spot(s) being treated.  Cryotherapy and laser will flatten and break up brown pigment whereas surgical excision is an option for the removal of deeply rooted moles.  With cryotherapy and laser, patients will notice a light crust develop and slough away within 10 days to reveal fresh, new skin beneath.  Safe sun protection must be strictly observed for 6 weeks following laser treatment.

Sun Damage Repair

At Cosmedica in Victoria, BC, non-invasive treatment options are designed to correct sun and free-radical damage while offering secondary benefits such as skin firming and smoothing of lines.  Of particular concern for individuals who have or do spend greater amounts of time outdoors, damage caused by sun will primarily affect the health of skin cells (pre-cancerous and cancerous damage) but also the integrity of the skin; lines, laxity and irregular pigmentation are all magnified by time spent unprotected in the sun.  Treatments to correct this damage conveniently address both primary and secondary concerns of long term sun exposure.

Fraxel® is one of the top recommended laser procedures for resurfacing sun damaged skin.  Within the Fraxel® family are various wavelengths that utilize its unique fractionated technology.  By treating deep into the dermis in microscopic cones while leaving surround tissues untreated, healing time is expedited and safety is maximized.  Fraxel® will help expel precancerous sun damage as well as reduce superficial effects such as pigmentation, fine lines and mild-moderate laxity.  Fraxel® is also FDA approved for scar revision.

Photodynamic Therapy is an excellent option for high-risk pre-cancerous damage and for certain types of skin cancers including superficial basal and squamous cell carcinomas and nodular basal cell carcinomas.  After a topical application of Metvix® cream, targeted lesions selectively absorb the photosensitizing agent over a 1-3 hour incubation period.  Next, patients sit for 13-15 minutes under a medical-grade red light.  This light source ‘activates’ the agent absorbed by damaged and mutated cells.  Patients are strictly advised to avoid sun light for 48 hours after which they may experience moderate exfoliation and flaking.  Photodynamic Therapy is an effective alternative to MOHs or other surgical removal processes for some varieties of skin cancers and minimizes instances of disfiguring scars.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Erase or replace. Achieve partial or whole tattoo removal with medical-grade laser tattoo removal treatments in Victoria, BC.  Celebrate the ability to reverse a once permanent decision and the flexibility to alter details; laser tattoo removal allows for a softening of dark or dramatic colours in preparation for a cover or the complete removal of partial or whole tattoos.  With 7 distinct laser systems, we are able to clear multiple colours with increased safety and efficacy.  After a recommended course of treatments, the original tattoo may appear less noticeable or almost completely invisible.

HOW IT WORKS

Each ink colour is selective to a specific wavelength of laser energy.  Ink particles within the tattoo will absorb laser energy and break into tiny fragments while relatively sparing surrounding skin.  Over several weeks, the body’s natural cleansing systems will clear the broken fragments and the tattoo will slowly fade.  Amateur tattoos generally require fewer treatment sessions than professional tattoos.  Most tattoos will eventually clear.  Topical anesthetic creams are recommended to minimize a stinging sensation and most regular activities can be resumed immediately.

HOW IT WORKS

Medical-grade laser energy is attracted to the colour of hair within the hair follicles; this powerful energy is selectively absorbed by that hair, disabling the follicles.  The body will immediately begin to expel disabled follicles and continue this shedding for 10-30 days.  Our care providers will advise you of a recommended frequency between 4 and 12 weeks.  Treatment sensation is likened to a warm zap and topical anesthetic creams can be applied prior to treatment.  Sun protection is imperative and patients are advised to avoid direct sun exposure on treated areas for up to 6 weeks.  Patients can immediately resume most daily activities.

Non-Surgical Rejuvenation

Turn back the clocks.  When sun exposure and unfavourable genetics leave you looking severe, sallow, saggy or spotted, look to improve the health of your skin and rewind time with non-surgical facial rejuvenation at Cosmedica in Victoria, BC.  Various laser, energy and injectable treatments can be recommended to suit your unique desires and lifestyle.  Look healthy and refreshed - naturally.

Injectable treatments, contrary to much of what we see in the tabloids, are an excellent option for softening more pronounced lines and folds when performed by a qualified and experienced dermatologist.  The overall effect of a well-provided Botox® treatment is a more relaxed appearance – not the complete eradication of lines and movement but a softening of those dynamic expression lines and a smoother complexion.  Volume can also be restored to cheeks and temples using dermal fillers.  These natural products are eased into hollowed areas to replace what once was lost for a slightly more youthful appearance without downtime.

Energy-based systems gradually lift and firm lax skin with applications of heat to stimulate and remodel collagen.  Compared to a facelift, energy-based systems like Thermage® powerfully stimulate the body’s natural collagen-building processes without downtime or any of the inherent risks of surgery or anesthesia.  Achieve firmer skin within 3-6 months with Thermage® or Ulthera™.

Fraxel® is one of the top recommended laser procedures for fractionated resurfacing.  Within the Fraxel® family are various types of lasers that utilize a unique fractionated technology to reduce uneven pigmentation, minimize lines and firm mild-moderate lax skin.
