Sun Damage
While there are benefits to sun exposure such as Vitamin D, ultraviolet light is also the cause of sun damage to the skin. Long-term damage arises from a lifetime of cumulative sun exposure and often presents itself as premature aging of the skin. Irregular brown discolouration, unwanted redness and blood vessels, and advanced wrinkling and little bumps (called colloid milia) can result as well. Precancerous spots (actinic keratosis) are also common, and require medical attention. Prevention by educated sun awareness, judicious use of sun protection, and regular skin monitoring are important.
At Cosmedica, photodynamic therapy and Fraxel re:store DUAL laser are popular ways to treat precancerous lesions (actinic keratosis). We also have multiple light and laser systems, including photorejuvenation to assist with the skin's cosmetic appearance. Our Victoria, British Columbia skin rejuvenation treatments are dermatologist directed and include a comprehensive skin care program.
